Wood 1

One of the common uses of using noise in textures is making wood.

There are lots of tutorials on how to make wood in Photoshop and while most were good I never liked how they still didn't look like wood.

I followed this tutorial [link] for the most part, but I was going for something that didn't really need to be "set up" in the initial steps and was going for something that could eventually be generated from start to finish automatically (granted you could do that in Photoshop now, already) so it's still based off of clouds and fibers.

One of the major deviations (ha) from the tutorial is that I kept everything greyscale and then applied a gradient map over it. This would explain why some of the colors don't really look right for wood.

Now if only I could get some better looking rings and knots in the wood.
